 Healthy Body Perception

What does your body really look like?   We have a set image of our body and that image is the image we use when choosing our lifestyle, our clothing and our mental identity.

When detoxing, your body changes shape but your perception of your body may remain stuck somewhere in the past.

One of the goals of a health, wellness and longevity detox is to get your mind perception in line with your physical body so that you do not let your mind default your health to a different version of yourself.

If you were an athlete and are no longer training, your body perception my no longer match your body. Through the detox, you can reset your body through moderate exercise and then reset your mind's perception of your body to the current athletic build that you are maintaining.

Resetting a body image to match a detoxed body takes time since most people have a misperception of what they look like.   Do not wait for other's to notice your weight loss.  According to the Cleveland clinic, there are no absolute number of days before someone notices the changes but in most cases, it will be after you have begun resetting your own mental body image.

If no one is noticing the changes in your appearance, it may be because of change blindness.   If  you want people to forget what you looked like before your detox, their change blindness may be to your benefit.

If you want them to forget what you looked like before, do the following to your appearance and to your photo feed on Social Media

  • Mudflapping - This process puts something like text on the photo so people do not pay attention to your image in the photo. So, the photos on the photo stream that show you at a different size would be used as a graphic and your body would be hidden. You could also make a character of yourself in the image to cover your image. Share this image on social media to cover the old image. Share this image in three or four posts over a few weeks and the old image of yourself will no longer be showing.
  • Tailor the Clothes you already own - Take the clothes you own that are now too large and have them reduced to your current size.  Then, the visual cue that your clothes are too big is gone and you are not wearing new clothes which would be a cue for them to notice a difference in your appearance.
  • Change your Shoes
  • Change your makeup routine
  • Change Your Hairstyle and your Hair Color - During your detox, change your hair and hair colour every week so people notice your hair change and not your weight change.  When you are done detoxing, you can change your haircut or hairstyle to one that does not match older photos of yourself.
  • Create New Social Media Feeds for your friends to share  - Start a new social media presence.  Tell your friends that you are changing your name for social media by adding your nickname and then delete your old feed or stop using it.   You may want to hire a social media expert to help you with this to make sure your old photos are no longer showing up in your friends feeds.
What did you see on social media?
